The New York Post has reported Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and over a dozen music publishers hit Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club with a federal lawsuit for allegedly refusing to pay royalties on songs played in the Manhattan club. According to the lawsuit filed in a Manhattan federal court yesterday, the 40/40 Club has failed to oblige to the licensing rules with “unauthorized public performance of musical compositions.” Broadcast Music Inc. filed the charges on behalf of the artists, which include Jackson, R. Kelly, Kanye West, Ray Charles, Renald Richard and Pharrell Williams. Broadcast Music is reportedly seeking unspecified damages for copyright infringement. According to the Post, BMI spokesperson, Jerry Baily, says the company has reached out, but ultimately failed to work out a deal with the 40/40 Club to license the rights to some of the 6.5 million songs BMI owns.
New York State judge has ordered Flavor Flav to pay $1.8 million in damages to a man he allegedly shot at in a Bronx apartment building 10-years-ago. According to the New York Post, Flav’s attorney plans to appeal the judgment over what he says is as a conflict of interest involving the presiding judge. The former Public Enemy hype-man was convicted in 1995 of weapons possession and sentenced to two months in jail and three years probation, after neighbor Thelouizs English claimed the rapper shot at him in the Executive Towers apartment building where they lived at the time. In 1996, English filed a civil lawsuit against Flav, claiming assault and battery. A process server left the paperwork with the building’s doorman, but Flav later claimed that he never received it. The next year, a default judgment of $350,000 in compensatory and $500,000 in punitive damages was handed down against the Flavor of Love star. Lawyers for English estimate that, with interest, that amount has now risen to $1.8 million.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Luda will star opposite 300 star Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson and actress Thandie Newton in the Snatch directors return to the caper genre. The film takes place in London, where a Russian Mobster organizes a crooked land deal that puts millions of dollars into play, sending a slew of the city’s criminals into a frenzy to get their hands on the cash. Luda will play an American musician trying to break into the U.K. music scene, while Butler and Wilkinson will portray two London mobsters. Ritchie, who is married to pop superstar Madonna, began filming last week in London.

Disturbing Tha Peace CEO Chaka Zulu has issued a statement about his fight with T.I. on Sunday (June 24) at the “Make It Happen” charity luncheon held by Kevin Liles in West Hollywood.
The statement reads:
“It’s a shame that things like this continue to happen especially with the backdrop of an event that was about benevolence and charitable works. I’m thankful that all issues have been resolved.”
Zulu’s publicist called the attack “unprovoked” and noted that the DTP exec was “forced to defend himself.”
